Your Role
As a Senior Job Captain at INTEC Group, Inc. you will lead the charge during CA, based on your extraordinary wealth of technical knowledge and eye for detail. You will also be asked to assist team members with production and/or QCing drawings, as required. While you will work under the direction of a Director and/or (Sr.) Project Manager and alongside the rest of the project team in varying capacity, you will often work with a high degree of autonomy to complete your daily tasks. The team will rely on you to be their eyes out in the field as well as an added resource for quality control and technical assistance within the office. INTEC is a mid-sized firm that provides its staff with the project opportunities and growth potential of a larger company along with the ability to be more intimately involved in projects, as is often anticipated in smaller firms. So, you can anticipate no day will ever be the same!
This is considered a HYBRID working opportunity, currently with two (2) days in the office (minimum). This could potentially change in the future or be modified on an as-needed basis, depending on the project team’s needs and deliverable deadlines. Our ideal candidate is local to the DMV area or is in the process of relocating; anyone interested in a fully remote/non-local position will not be considered.
As a Sr. Job Captain on the INTEC Group team, you will:
- Work alongside project team members to ensure project goals and design intent objectives are handed off and carried through to the project finish line.
- Ensure associated efforts appropriately conform to contractual agreement with client.
- Interface and coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, and permitting officials, as required.
- Provide technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex design and construction challenges; assist in technical detailing as required.
- Take a solution-oriented approach when responding to design-related and technical challenges during construction; when appropriate, consult with the team to develop solutions that are budget-conscious without sacrificing design integrity (at least, whenever possible!)
- Consistently observe and report back to the internal project team on active construction projects;
bring mistakes, challenges and issues to the teams’ attention in order to avoid repeat mistakes, challenges and issues in the future; this applies to both drawing accuracy and physical constructability.
- Support “typical” CA tasks, including attending construction progress meetings, preparing meeting minutes, compiling field reports with photographs of project progress, reviewing/approving submittals, responding to contractor/vendor RFIs, and completing punch list walk-thrus.
- Actively mentor the younger staff; provide opportunities for other team members to observe CA meetings, participate in site visits and assist with other CA-related tasks required to complete the external Internship Development Program (IDP) (a pre-requisite to becoming a licensed architect).
- Be willing to travel if necessary and as required.
- Think on your feet; be able to quickly adapt to changing client requirements, unexpected site conditions and other challenges that arise during the design and construction process. Along with this comes a keen ability to analyze complex situations, develop practical solutions, and communicate effectively with various stakeholders involved in a project.
- Work hard but play hard as well…actively contribute to office activities, cultural initiatives and learning opportunities.
Qualifications needed to be successful in this role include:
- Professional degree (Masters or Bachelor) in Architecture, or other related field, from an accredited school.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience focused on base building and commercial core and shell projects; commercial interiors experience is a plus.
- Professional license or certification preferred, but not required.
- LEED and or WELL accreditation preferred but not required.
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, and BlueBeam.
- Experience with the entire project lifecycle, from master planning through post-occupancy.
- Skillfully able to lead, manage and mentor multiple project teams along with the ability to navigate multiple projects, of varying size and scope, concurrently.
- Strong, comprehensive knowledge of building codes, zoning, jurisdictional processes, building materials, specifications and construction techniques.
- Team-oriented, with strong leadership thorough and relationship management skills; willing to work collaboratively with project team members.
Qualified and interested candidates should submit a resume and a portfolio or work samples in ordered to be considered. You must also be living in the DMV area, or in the process of relocating.
