By now it should be no secret that our corporate vision at INTEC Group is to enhance the human condition. This is a vision that we are consistently evolving and expressing in new ways; but one of our favored actions to achieve this is through giving back – and the holidays are the perfect opportunity to extend our generosity and eagerness to help others in unique ways!
This year we have focused attention on needs within our communities and each office sought out different approaches to get involved. At the end of the day, our Charlotte and DC offices found a program through Herman Miller and the Boys and Girls Club making crafts and ornaments with inner city children of varying ages. Because this is a nation-wide event, each office attended in their own community and came back with similar experiences: SUCCESS!
“It was a joy to be able to spend the afternoon with the children of the Boys & Girls Club in Benning Rd, DC.” said Robyn Rubino, a Project Designer in our DC office. “To see the delight in their eyes and the smiles on their faces made it worth every moment. One moment that stands out the most for me was when a young man came up from having his crafts and toys wrapped. He approached a group of his friends and handed them gifts for a young girl’s birthday and to other friends for Christmas. It was a sweet moment to see and share.”
Jill Tucker, a Designer in our Charlotte office, added, “The Charlotte architecture and design community came together to provide children with a day full of creativity and fun. We helped them make festive ornaments! It was great to see the kids take pride in their work and get excited about sharing their creations with their friends and family.”
Our Charlotte office was also able to give back in a very special way on behalf of a current client, Monarch. An apartment complex in Smithfield, NC that provides long-term housing for some of the individuals that Monarch serves was severely damaged recently by flood waters caused by Hurricane Matthew. The bottom level and four apartments were flooded.
Residents lost most of their belongings due to water and mold damage – including clothing, household items, furniture, and personal items. “We held a wrapping party during lunch one day to giftwrap all the items that were collected. It was a great experience to be able to help others in need and to build team morale in the process.” said Denise Hoffman, a Project Designer in our Charlotte office.
In August, for our all-hands Strategic Planning meeting, we donated back-to-school items to Shelter House. It was such a rewarding experience to work with their staff, we didn’t want to miss the chance to get involved during the holiday season. The Fairfax office “adopted” 6 families – single mothers and their children whom Shelter House currently supports. “It was humbling to have the ability to check things off of someone’s wish list. There is always a chance to enhance the human condition and where there is a will, there’s a way! We certainly have the will, and will never have a problem finding a way with the eagerness and generosity our staff shares!” said Amanda Butterfield, the Office Manager in our Fairfax office.
So, that has been the 2016 holiday experience at INTEC Group in a nutshell! Enhancing the human condition isn’t just something we say, it’s something we act on, and we look forward to 2017 and more opportunities to continue to give back!
