If you’ve gotten to know us at INTEC Group, you know that we are passionate about growth. We are always looking for ways to expand our ability to respond to our clients’ diverse needs and find new frontiers to explore as professionals.
So when the opportunity came to acquire John Cooney Associates Architects (JCA), we recognized it as a chance to add the resources we needed for a retail sector offering that’s second to none.
As friends for many years, John Cooney, President and CEO of JCA, shared with our President and CEO, Keith Switzer, that he was preparing to retire; consequently, he was looking for the right company and culture for his employees to transition to. From there, things moved very quickly.
We had already identified the desire to pursue opportunities to enhance our retail sector experience through our internal strategic planning process. But the acquisition of JCA would also help our efforts to capitalize on the burgeoning market of mixed-use and multi-family communities happening across the country. Easy decision. We have the multi-family expertise in our Charlotte office and the commercial office portfolio to build on in our Fairfax office. Now, with the acquisition of JCA, we also have a strong retail presence and can truly set ourselves apart from our competitors in every facet of a mixed-use development.
Switzer said, “We set the plan, took a calculated risk as a team, and one year later there is palpable growth that measurably improves our ability to meet our clients’ needs in every sector. The buzz in the office and among our clients is incredible.”
The JCA team is known for their work with Mosaic District, Union Market and Cathedral Commons, along with other specialty clients such as Edens and Giant Foods’ A-Hold, the parent company of national retail brands.
John Cooney said, “I wanted my staff to be incorporated into another organization that would not only foster their professional growth and development, but care for them on a personal level, as well, when I retire. I have no doubt that I made the right decision by pursuing INTEC Group and bringing my team into the INTEC family.”
For both teams, it means more opportunity for learning across market sectors. While we continue to welcome JCA’s clients, we’re also reinforcing the JCA division with a deeper foundation of technical talent and geographical accessibility, with offices in Charlotte, Raleigh (coming soon), Fairfax and Washington, D.C.
“We are a people-focused firm. We want the best opportunities for our team members to grow with us professionally and be rewarded for their entrepreneurial spirit,” Switzer said.
